Please note: Although this article is written with a Shakespearean flare, the musical Something Rotten! is performed with straightforward language and you’re guaranteed to laugh your tuchus off!
In the illustrious streets of Livonia, where the air is filled with the melodies of minstrels there stirs a fervor of anticipation for an upcoming spectacle that promises to transport audiences to a world of mirth and music. Prepare thy jests and warm thy vocal cords, for on the eve of March 14th through March 16th, the hallowed halls of Livonia Middle/High School auditorium shall resound with the rollicking tunes and uproarious laughter of Something Rotten! - a musical feast fit for nobles and common folk alike.
Directed by the esteemed artisans of Whittel and VanEpps, this theatrical masterpiece weaves a tale as old as time, yet as fresh as the morning dew upon the meadows. Set in the halcyon days of the Renaissance, Something Rotten! spins the whimsical yarn of two brothers, Nick and Nigel Bottom, as they endeavor to outshine the luminary playwright of the age, the one and only William Shakespeare. Amidst the backdrop of the bustling streets of 16th-century London, audiences shall be regaled with a riotous romp through mistaken identities, forbidden love, and the eternal pursuit of artistic greatness.
Furthermore, the cast and crew of Something Rotten! are eagerly anticipating the opportunity to bring this riotous tale to life upon the stage. "Being a part of this show has been truly amazing. Seeing the cast and crew come together, try new things, and be creative is so rewarding and I am excited for everyone to see our hard work come to life and witness how special our program is.," shares Erin Czudak who plays Bea Bottom. "All of the witty remarks in this show are going to surprise a lot of people. Especially after doing Les Miserables last year, the contrast between the seriousness of that production and the constant humor in Something Rotten! will catch the audience off guard.” adds Sean Spezzano who portrays Nick Bottom he also shares that “the hardest part of this year's musical is definitely the tap dance. When we began rehearsals, I had zero dance experience, so it's certainly been a challenge having to dance in numerous tap numbers throughout the show. This being said, it's still a blast participating in these fun and difficult scenes.” “This show is for people who like to laugh, love dancing (especially tap), and who like to see the best high school musicals around!” says James Spezzano who is the Stage Manager for the show. Czudak adds “I think this show is for everyone. It has the history factor, memorable characters, tons of singing and dancing, and it is undeniably funny. But I think the true musical lovers will really appreciate it, it has a ton of iconic musical references and the show just recognizes the magic of theater.”
In anticipation of this momentous occasion, we beseech thee, dear reader, to heed the call of the trumpets and join us in this grand revelry. Let thy heart be light and thy laughter unbridled, for in the world of Something Rotten!, every jest is a gem, and every note a symphony. Come, be a part of history in the making, and let us make merry together in the wondrous land of Livonia!
If you are in possession of a sensitive disposition- this show just may leave you clutching your pearls in shock. While edited for content, innuendo and double entendres abound- as they did in the days of Shakespeare. (If you liked Livonia’s Spamalot, you’ll LOVE this show. But to be fair- PG-13ish is probably a safe assessment.) The show starts at 7:00 PM and tickets can be purchased online or with cash at the door- $15 adult/$10 students and seniors.
