Wednesday Night Wrap-Up
🏀 The JV Boys Basketball team wrapped up their season on a positive note at Avon this Wednesday, earning the W by a score of 44-34. The win capped a 4-0 finish to a 10-10 season. “Following our first game in December, a game that we lost by 4 to Whitman, we found the positive: holding Whitman to under 30 points. From that point forward, we decided to build our identity around full-court man-to-man pressure and principled defense in the halfcourt, and we really redoubled our efforts following our game at home versus Hornell. Though we understand we have much work to do in the off-season to clean up issues on both ends of the floor, we can feel pretty good about our progress defensively. Our opponents in our final four games averaged just 30 points,” Coach Martin says. Leading scorers in each of the four games were as follows: freshmen Brayden Amadeo and Brady O’Keefe, each with 8 versus Bath; sophomore Owen Weterrings and freshman Ethan Mack, both with 13 versus Way.-Co.; Mack with 14 at Perry; and Amadeo and sophomore Lucas Ray, each with 11 at Avon. Coach Martin concludes, “I have many positive memories from this season, but I will forever remember my guys’ attitudes in the locker room after Avon. I saw an engaged group that now understands more clearly what it will take to compete in our league moving forward, and already, guys are asking me when we can get back in the gym. That excites me!” Come support our varsity team during their upcoming Sectional run.
🏀Boys Varsity Basketball lost to Avon 41-62/ Livonia’s Connor Feehan scored a career and game high 17 points ( 5 three pointers) and Chris Coyle added 9 points for the visiting Bulldogs. “We came out and played hard in the first quarter. We had some good looks at the basket, especially in the first half, but our shots didn’t fall in for us tonight. If we make some of those, it might have been a closer game going into the half and into the third quarter. But give Avon credit, they responded on our misses ,made their shots and beat us up inside tonight. They’re a tough matchup for us, and a well rounded team. We will regroup and get ready for sectionals next Wednesday.”
Best of luck to the swim team as the head to Haverling for Sectional Prelims tonight. If they boys finish in the top 16 of their event they move on to finals on Friday. #Let'sGo
