On Friday, High School Counselors were treated to a special day at BOCES. Mrs. Fitzsimmons and Mrs. McGinnins spent time seeing Livonia students in action and learning more about each of the programs. They enjoyed a wonderful lunch prepared by the culinary students and spent the afternoon finding out what local business owners are looking for in employees. They also heard about new opportunities coming to BOCES.

The MasterMinds teams kicked off the season at home on Thursday. The Varsity team lost a close match to Keshequa 130-110, but they bounced back with a 265-50 win over Mt. Morris. The JV team started with a 175-10 victory over Keshequa but fell 80-75 against Mt. Morris. With many returning members, a large crew coming up from Academic Challenge Bowl, and several completely new faces, the future looks bright! Thursday’s top scorers were Grace D (85 pts), Ellie D (55 pts), and Miranda B (30 pts). The team was also given the plaque for its first-place finish last season.
The next competition is on 12/21 at Honeoye. You can find schedules, scores, and stats at http://www.nymasterminds.com/league/23-24R9.html

On Tuesday, the ACB team entered the “final four” playoffs as the #2 seed. In the semifinal match, Livonia defeated Wyoming 240-170. That put the Bulldogs into the finals against undefeated York. Earlier in the season, York handily beat Livonia 410-190. To make things even more daunting, Livonia’s top two scorers were not available Tuesday. Livonia managed to keep it close early, trailing 30-0 after the first “quarter”. Late in the game, Livonia trailed 180-80 with only 4 minutes to go. Did we mention that 3 of the 4 Livonia players at that point were 6th graders? None of that mattered! Livonia had a perfect bonus round to tie the score at 180. After that, the Bulldogs outscored York 70-10 down the stretch to WIN the championship! The heart, grit, and resolve of this team is truly impressive! Top scorers for the night were Nolan C (160 points), Finn C (60 points), and Clay F (20 points).
To really top off an amazing win, some of the team received praise while out at Wegmans afterward! The woman at the sub shop purposefully came over to tell Coach Scheuer how polite, respectful, and well-behaved the boys were when they went through the line! (It might be because they got it all out their systems on the bus ride there, but nobody needs to know about that.)
The second season will begin soon! You can find schedules, stats, and scores at http://www.nymasterminds.com/acb/23-24ACBR8.html
