The Academic Challenge Bowl playoffs were Tuesday afternoon, and Livonia entered as the #1 seed. Their only “loss” this season was a forfeit to Geneseo so that they could get back in time for Frozen rehearsal. Therefore, it seemed appropriate that the semifinal match was against Geneseo. It was a close match, with Livonia trailing late in the first half. They rallied to win 330-260. The championship match was against LeRoy, and points were scarce for both teams early on. A complete sweep of the bonus round (first time that’s happened all season!) broke things open and Livonia went on to win 340-240. This team has been amazing all season, doing things that just don’t normally happen. For instance, Anna Guetti and Caris Sicker each earned their first points of the year. In the championship match! That’s how you show up at the right time! Top scorers of the night were Peyton Bennett (130 points), Matthew Parry (120 points), and Justin Ferguson (60 points). The year’s not over yet, though, because they start a second season next Wednesday at RH Roth. Standings, stats, and schedules for that league can be found at http://www.nymasterminds.com/acb/22-23ACBR4.html
