Budget Breakdown: What happens if the budget does not pass?
State law requires the District to adopt a budget each year. If the proposed budget is not approved, the Board of Education may present the same budget to voters again, propose a revised budget, or adopt a contingent budget.
If the District ultimately moves to a contingent budget, the tax levy would be frozen at last year’s amount. For 2026–27, that would require about $615,785 in additional cuts.
Cuts at that level would have real impacts. Field trips would be eliminated or significantly reduced. Facility use for community groups would be severely limited unless all costs are reimbursed to the District. Purchases of student supplies and equipment would be restricted. Staffing reductions would also need to be considered.
These would be difficult decisions, and they would affect students, families, staff, and the broader community.
